Three years ago I had the privilege of meeting this family for the first time. Back then Richard and Susan had recently expanded their family. With the adoption of FIVE children, plus their biological twin girls, they became a family of NINE. I had often wondered how long it might be for a child who is adopted to feel included in a household and to feel as if they belong. If this family is any indication…no time at all. With the exception of blonde twins and the rest of the crew brunette, I think anyone would have a hard time figuring out who joined the family when. The connection between Richard and Susan, and each of their seven kids, is a beautiful thing to witness.
So we decided this year to do a day in the life session with the Woodruff Family, and showed up at their home in the morning before breakfast got underway. Besides photos this year, we also added cinematography to the mix to document “a day in the life” as it happened. And let me tell you….on a Saturday in this house, plenty happens. And as soon as Jeffrey over at Mountain City Productions gets done with the movie, we’ll be sure to show it here:-)
So what happened on this particular day…..
Breakfast for seven kids and two adults (actually four adults…Jeffrey and I had waffles too!) was started…..Someone was writing an epic novel…..Someone was crocheting….Plenty of kids were dancing……Dad was referring a disagreement….Breakfast was in full swing….Grandma came over to give weekly piano lessons to all seven children (God has a special place for this grandmother)…..Mom did hair for the girls for their photo session….the boys went outside to shoot hoops while waiting….Dad and kids cleaned the kitchen….We did a photo shoot at Lost Dutchman State Park….Jacob had a basketball game and brought a HUGE cheering section…..we watched mom and dad create an amazing dinner….we interviewed each of the kids….we ate the amazing dinner….we played an EPIC game of Guess Who while Mom and Dad were interviewed….we left. I was exhausted. The next day Susan and Richard got up and started the whole process over again.
Amazing couple, with endless love to share. Seven children growing up in a home full of love, patience and wonderful values.
I can’t wait until next year. We love you Woodruff Family!
