The Riley Hospital for Children Cancer Center is one of the favorite nights of my year. This year 350 patients and their family members were clothed, pampered and primped for a night of dancing and fun. It never ceases to amaze me to watch these families take a momentary break from the horrors of cancer to blow off some steam and have a little bit of fun. The excitement begins a few weeks before Prom when the families come to “Promingdales” where they choose dresses, tuxes, shoes, hats, purses, jewelry and a variety of other bling. A few weeks later hairstylists, makeup artists and volunteers descend on the hospital to create a pampering SPA for the attendees and within a couple of hours young ladies become “Cinderalla” and moms become “Queens”. From the very first beat of the speakers in the decked out hall the dance floor is packed for the night. It is one of my favorite nights of the year and I enjoy the evening immensely. I want to thank my friend, and superb photographer, Stacy Able for hanging out with me this year and capturing amazing images as well.
This year the theme was “Under the Sea”. Lovely mermaids waddling around, gorgeous backdrops of sea creatures light up the dance floor and food galore that any sea lover or landlubber would of enjoyed. The most precious part of the evening is watching the expression on the parents faces as they witness the joy in their kids as they dance, dance, dance. It is so wonderful. Enjoy some fun images from the event and I look forward to seeing what is created for next year’s Prom. Check out the video below and a couple of fun shots from the night!
